Commissioning of our replacement rescue vessel Kingborough Rescue 1

On Thursday 10th June 2021 we were proud to officially launch our rescue vessel “Kingborough Rescue 1” into service. The replacement vessel, ‘Kingborough Rescue 1 (KR1)’, was funded by a grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund. We are one of two Surf Life Saving Tasmania Volunteer Marine Rescue units located in the south of the state (Sea Rescue Tasmania) and play an important role in providing safety, education and awareness to the boating community. Our volunteers play a crucial role in the delivery of marine emergency response supporting emergency services within the area of southern Tasmania, covering approximately 560 kilometres of coastline. The vessel and launching berth will enable faster response times in emergencies, aid Tasmania Police in a search and rescue capacity, and provide water safety to a number of community groups. Thankyou to all our volunteers and guests who turned up for the commissioning as well as Seawall Cafe & Oyster Cove Marina for warm coffees on a cold winter day!
